Mirage Artifacts
Mirage Artifacts
(2011)
Six sculptures made of shattered and routed clear acrylic on top of a pedestal made of altered mirrored acrylic and airbrushed steel.
Each of the Mirage Artifacts are based on a group of mysterious diagrams that I accidentally discovered hidden behind an old crumbling drywall in my studio. Who, when and why the drawings were made and then covered up remains uncertain to me.
I used the linear pattern of these diagrams as as a three-layered footprint to build out the translucent object's shape.
Directional light shines through the Mirage Artifacts and reflects off of the mirror surface of the base, casting distorted light formations onto the surrounding walls.
